Celebrity Equinox Emerges From Shipyard

Celebrity Cruises' second Solstice-class ship, the Celebrity Equinox emerged from the shipyard during its official "docking out" from Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany.

The Equinox will sail from Papenburg down the River Ems June 19 or 20, depending on the winds and tides, and following various provisioning activities, sea trials and inspections, will host a series of invitation-only special events, from July 23 until entering service July 31.

Celebrity Equinox will present a series of "Ancient Empires" and other European itineraries from Southampton and Rome this summer, followed by 10- and 11-night "Ultimate Caribbean" cruises from Ft. Lauderdale, beginning in November.

US Travel Association to Add Goldstein, Porter and Taylor to Hall of Leaders

The US Travel Association has named Adam Goldstein, the late Stevan Porter and Andrew Taylor as 2009 inductees into its US Travel Hall of Leaders. The three executives will be honored during a dinner attended by more than 100 travel industry leaders during the US Travel winter board meeting on Dec. 3.

Individuals are chosen for "sustained, noteworthy contributions that have positively impacted the travel industry, simulated greater achievement, and raised industry-wide standards."

"Adam, Steve and Andy are great examples of top business executives with tremendous responsibilities who can still make time for contributions that benefit the entire industry," said Roger J. Dow, US Travel's president and CEO.

Adam Goldstein is president and CEO of Royal Caribbean International. He was national chair of the US Travel Association in 2001 and also served as chair of the USA Marketing Council from 1998-2000. According to the US Travel Association, Goldstein has long been active in industy issues related to the promotion and facilitation of travel to the US. He currently serves as a member of the Energy Security Leadership Council, a group of CEOs and retired military leaders dedicated to the creation of a comprehensive solution to US energy security.

Stevan Porter was president of the Americas region for InterContinental Hotel Group and served as chairman of the Discover America Partnership, an industry coalition formed in 2006, which helped spur many reforms related to attracting more international visitors to the US. Porter also served as co-chair of the former Travel Business Roundtable and Travel Industry Association.

Andrew Taylor serves as chairman and CEO of Enterprise Rent-A-Car and has served on the World Travel and Tourism Council, as well as the US Travel and Tourism Industry Advisory Board, which offers guidance to the Secretary of Commerce on industry issues. In addition, Taylor has taken a leadership role in publicly challenging unfair, arbitrary and discriminatory excise taxes that single out and take advantage of rental car customers to fund unrelated projects and programs in local communities.

With these inductees, 81 travel industry professionals have been inducted into the Travel Industry Hall of Leaders since it was created in 1969.
